There are a lot of Cornish units type 1 in Devon. These type of PRC houses are repaired using a PRC Homes Ltd approved repair scheme, which are acceptable to all major high street lenders.
The repairs consist of removing the concrete exterior PRC walls and replacing with a traditional cavity wall, usually finished in brick, although some Clients prefer a render finish. In some cases the existing foundations are wide enough to build the cavity wall, the new walls are wider than the existing concrete panel walls. If the existing foundations are not wide enough then they are either extended or the new walls will generally have a small cavity with insufficient insulation added. To comply with current building regulations insulated plasterboard will need to be fitted, this may result in the rooms being made smaller and can cause problems with fitted kitchens etc.
New brickwork with cavity insulation added, this Cornish type 1 will be fitted with french doors to the back garden.
Once the new walls have been built the inside is plasterboarded and plaster skim, skirting boards and light switches etc are put back ready for the Clients to decorate.
In most cases new fascia and guttering is added along with UPVC doors and windows.
